Wedding detail photos are so important. They make a great addition to any collage or photo album. These can include close-ups of the dress hanging, accessories, flowers, cake, anything special from the day. Some of my absolute favorite kind of shots are styled flat lays. A styled flat lay is a photo taken from above of wedding detail items. But what should be included in them? Here is what you should bring along to get stunning shots:
Jewelry
Make sure that all of your rings, especially your engagement ring, are cleaned before your wedding detail photos are taken. Bring along the box too, it can make for some great shots. You may also want to include necklaces, earrings, cuff links or any other jewelry you or your partner will be wearing.
Stationary
Hold onto a copy of your invitations, save-the-dates, menus, timelines, anything that you have had designed and sent out to your guests. Include the envelopes as well. They make a beautiful addition to a flat lay wedding detail shot. The photo captures these beautiful keepsakes forever in case anything is to happen to them or they become lost.
Shoes
Remember to clean your shoes, especially the bottoms! You want them looking their best. Your photographer may move them onto surfaces or tables for the flat lay & you don’t want them leaving a mark or soiling anything. Grooms should be sure that their shoes are polished & looking spiffy as well.
Vow Books
Vows are one of the most important aspects of your wedding. If you are writing personal vows, I definitely recommend using vow books. It is so much more intimate & special than reading off of the notes app on your phone. If you don’t want to buy a whole book even just handwriting them on a nice piece of paper & folding it neatly still looks very sweet. They can really bring a flat lay together & help tell the story of your day through photography.
Something Old, New, Borrowed & Blue
We all know the phrase “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”. These items are said to bring good luck on your wedding day! It can also be so fun to gather them throughout the planning process. If you chose to partake in this tradition, remember to tell your photographer so that they can get shots of the individual items or arrange them in a flat lay.
Personal Items & Extras
This is YOUR day so bring along anything special that means something to you two. This can include handwritten notes that you may have written to each other the morning of, a map of where you two met or are getting married, etc. The more personal your wedding detail photos are, the better!
A few other things to consider: perfume, extra pieces of ribbon or blooms from your florist, a bag or clutch if you’re using one, your hair accessories & your vail!
I (110%) care as much about your big day as you do. I take this whole wedding planning/designing, best day of your life thing seriously. And if you’ve invited me to be part of this very special day I'm ready to give you the best damn experience of a lifetime.
